Texel 2004
Al finished 370 out of 578 in a time of 4hr 8min; 3hr 50min corrected.
With his regular crew, Pete Lawson, Alan has completed in many long distance events:
Marconi Sailing Club's East Coast Piers Race
They completed in 1999 (47 out of 56) and 2000 (32 out of 37) with his Inter 20.
They completed in 2001 with his Spitfire and came 11th out of 47.
Marconi Sailing Club's Colne Point Race
This is the shorter course of the ECPR. Basically it is the same course but you turn back at Colne point.
Alan and Pete completed the race in 2002, coming 3rd!!!
Asymmetric Round Wight Race
Completed in 1999 on Inter 20, finishing 30 out of 47
Fast Cat Round Wight Race
Completed in 2001 - their first sail on the Spitfire, finished 51 out of 54
Completed in 2002, finished 57 out of 73
Ist, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th International Sailing Marathon for People with a Disability
Alan took part in the first event in 2001. He sailed a Hobie Tiger, kindly lent by Wildwind, together with Nigel Hiscox as crew.
He took part in the 2002 event, but this time towed the Spitfire out with Pete Lawson. They stopped at Lake Garda to break up the drive and took in two great days of sailing.
In 2003 he sailed a Tornado Sport kindly lent by Dimitris from Toronaios Cat Club. Darren Bundock took time out from his Olympic campaign to crew for Al.
In 2006 Alan was again lucky enough to have Darren Bundock crew for him.
In 2009 Alan was fortunate enough to have Kostas Trigonis crewing for him.
Sportsman of the Year Award
Alan was awarded the Sportsman of the Year Award by the UKCRA for his endeavours on the long distance race circuit in 2001.
